THE BAND
COBRA might be the biggest and well known japanese streetpunk band ever.
Established back in 1982 , during highschooltime of singer Yosu-Ku and Naoki.
In 1983 they released first tracks on some compilation followed up by their first 7" ep on AA records in 1984. The compilations and the first 7" releases has been very successful so they could sign their first major deal in 1990 and played venues like the legendary "Tokio Budokan". A venue which fits 14.000 people, where the Beatles played in 1966 so Ozzy Osborne, Bob Dylan & Cheap Trick did. Last three even record live albums "At The Budokan".
Cobra split up in 1991 and singer Yosu-Ku start his soloproject Cow Cow which last until 1998.
Cobra re-startet in 1998 and released their comeback album OK RIDE ON in 1999 on E.M. I. Records. Since than the band had just a couple of line-up changes but they have been constant touring and releasing records (both just in
In 28 years of history Cobra had a lot of up and downs but because of the strong work and Yosu-Ku's faith into punk and music they kept going with their very own style of streetpunk. Cobra don't need to be compared with any other band but if you want so let's say that fans of Cock Sparrer, Business, Cockney Rejects, Oxymoron or even the Casualties will like it.
